Просмотров 5442 года назад
Catherine O'Connell (nee O'Mullane) is shunted out to a Kilshannig grave from Cahersiveen. Why? What is the basis from this custom of leaving your home and family and going back to where your "clan" lived?? Is it the way women were treated in those days? Donnie O'Sullivan looks at her grave and talks about it.

Siskins Come to Glenville Co. Cork

Siskins are not so rare in Ireland. However it seems not many people come across them. This is when a few of them visited Glenville. Maybe it was a hot few days which sent them adventuring! Or maybe it was the Nyger seeds which they love. We were delighted to see their wonderful colours and listen to their distinctive chirpings

I love this video that shows the deep, deep faith of the Irish during Penal times in Ireland. Those were harsh and dangerous times to be Catholic. My ancestors were from Ireland in the 1840s to 1900. God bless them!! Today is May 9,2024 Richard Sullivan Minneapolis, Minnesota USA

That cannot be true, when I was a kid of 4 to 9 years old I lived high up in a mountain village with my family and many other villagers in the western hills of Connemara, with no roads or traffic lights in our village, the sheep and goats refuse to climb up to our high sky village. the only passing creatures we would see for weeks at a time were high flying wild geese and other brave high flying birds. Yes I agree Meelin is a far more beautiful place, but it has asphalt roads and electricity supply. Ana has a most beautiful singing voice, she could easily fit in The Appalachian Mountains of the Americas

I am an American with the surname O'Connell, and by way of some digging I have concluded there is a strong chance that my direct patrilineal ancestors emigrated from this area of Ireland, but beyond that I do not know much and was hoping to learn more.
